Vesak is a religious and cultural festival in Sri Lanka. It is celebrated in the month of May. It is celebrated in the month of May. The Vesak festival marks the birth, enlightenment and passing away into Nirvana of the Lord Buddha. Many religious activities are organized during this period in Sri Lanka. The Buddhists of Sri Lanka, decorate their houses and public places with colorful lanterns called "vesak kuudu"  are hung and along street. Most of the Buddhists observe sil and that day people go to see the pandals. As well as on this day all Buddhists go to the temple, offer flowers, and worship the Buddha.


As well as arrange for various cultural events to bring happiness to everyone on that day. Food stalls set up by Buddhists devotees called Dansalas provide free food and drinks to passersby. Vesak is also a time great to one's appetites' but by concentrating and illuminating temples, painting and creating exquisite scenes from the life of the Buddha for public dissemination.
