This is most important festival in Sri Lanka. When the sun moves from the Meena Rashiya to the Meesha Rashiya in the celestial sphere. It is generally celebrated on 13 April 14 April. All the Sinhala and Tamil people in Sri Lanka are celebrating this festival and they were new cloths and exchange gifts for Sinhala and Tamil New year. Sinhala and Tamil people also prepare a lot of delicious food for the Sinhala and Tamil New year. There are also many New year customs associated with it. That is there are many rituals such dealing, lighting a fire, eating food anointing the head. 


There are also many folk games associated with the New Year. If they are keeping an eye on an elephant, climbing a slippery tree, eating milk and singing folk songs common during this time. There will also be a lot of changes in the environment during this time. That is the blossoming of the "erabadu flowers", the coha screaming and so on. Sinhala and Tamil New year are celebrated by the Sinhala and Tamil people with great joy and togetherness.
